National Trails Intermountain Region
National Trails Intermountain Region works with partners across nine national historic trails, one historic highway, 24,000 miles, and 25 states to protect, develop, and promote these special places. In New Mexico, the National Trails Office is conducting research on the Hispanic legacy of Route 66 in the American Southwest.
Pecos National Historical Park
In the midst of piñón, juniper, and ponderosa pine woodlands in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains not far from Santa Fe, the remains of Indian pueblos stand as meaningful reminders of people who once prevailed here. Now a national historical park demonstrates to modern visitors the cultural exchange and geographic facets central to the rich history of the Pecos Valley.
